The Molecular Foundry's Organic and Macromolecular Synthesis Facility at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) offers an exciting postdoctoral position to work at the interface between Supramolecular Chemistry, Organic Electronics and Nanoscience. The goal is to control the supramolecular ordering in organic electronic materials for energy related applications. Special focus will be given to the development of multiscale supramolecularly engineered nanostructured materials, their tailor-made interfaces to solid substrates and electrodes, for the fabrication of organic photovoltaics (OPVs), field effect transistors (FETs), and other electronic devices.
Key Responsibilities
Perform synthesis and characterization of organic semiconducting materials.
Manipulate supramolecularly engineered nanostructured materials, including the self-assembly of as synthesized materials and characterization using scanning probe microscope and/or X-ray diffraction techniques.
Fabricate organic electronic devices (OFETs, OPVs, etc.) and characterize electronic properties thereof.
Communicate research progress within the group and report results externally through conference presentations and peer reviewed publications.
Qualifications
Recent Ph.D. (within three years) in Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science or a related field
Skilled in the synthesis of organic semiconducting materials and their characterization using UV/Vis, photoluminescence (PL), cyclic voltammetry, DSC and TGA
Experience with organic electronic devices (OFETs, OPVs, etc) fabrication and characterization is strongly preferred.
Relevant thin film characterization skills such as AFM, SEM, TEM and/or SAXS/WAXS are a plus.
Critical analysis and communication skills should be demonstrated through research publications in peer reviewed journals.
