The Formulation Chemist is responsible for a variety of functions related the formulation, labeling, and consumer acceptability of our products to meet organizational needs. The position requires attention to detail, accuracy in information retention and a high degree of creativity and aesthetic appreciation.
Primary Duties:
Formulation and Brand Maintenance:
Formulate liquid, powder and gel products to meet internal ingredient standards and launch time deadlines according to industry practices for safety, scientific significance, accuracy and recordkeeping.
Conduct appropriate performance testing to benchmarks when identified to ensure proper functionality and premium performance.
Optimize formulation ingredients to manage costs and availability of ingredients for intended function.
Monitor stability testing, including first production run stabilities, and maintain records thoroughly and concisely.
Prepare samples and track documentation for micro-challenge testing and toxicological testing. Coordinate outside testing with appropriate resources.
Prepare samples for fragrance evaluations internally and for external private label opportunities.
Prepare required information for outside resources to generate MSDS and Canadian regulatory reviews. File and maintain final reports as required.
Meet with chemical suppliers to be aware of new raw materials and the possible second sourcing of raw materials to meet cost objectives.
Review competitive product and prepare technical reports with data from standardized comparative tests.
Review trade publications and other industry news sources for raw material information, regulatory updates and educational opportunities.
Investigate new raw materials and technologies through laboratory experimentation, record findings and suggest applications.

Manufacturing Scale Up:
Prepare quotation packets as specified for new products and submit to outside fillers to include but not limited to formulation, mixing procedures, color, odor and appearance standards and specified raw materials.
Be present for pilot batches and first production runs as necessary depending on formulation
Prepare finished product samples as necessary to support sales, marketing and public relations teams.
Customer/Consumer Service:
Assist in answering consumer calls of a technical nature related to product ingredients, product usage and possible adverse reactions
Provide MSDS as necessary in questionable situations
Assist in training customer service personnel in new product launches prior to ship dates.
