Position Summary:

Under moderate supervision, independently formulates and tests products for market segments served by energy curable products. Products include formulated coatings and inks. This individual must also possess and promote an understanding of product design-performance interrelationships, including the chemistry, engineering and physics of formulated products. Position Requirements

Accountabilities/Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and formulation of inks and coatings.
  • Preparation of lab-scale formulations for short-and long-term platform and product development.
  • Testing of experimental product formulations.
  • Scientific analysis of new product formulations.
  • Short-term troubleshooting to address customer complaints, as well as performance refinement needs
  • Project Management, including business support, core maintenance and product development.
  • Support and promotion of Sun Chemical quality and continuous improvement culture, e.g., ISO, Six Sigma , DfSS
  • Serves as a technical interface for product scale-up, as well as customer meetings and pilot trials.
  • Works in a safe manner and promotes work safety.
  • Documents work in laboratory notebook and manages the stage-gate process in the Global Product Management (GPM) portal.
  • Helps establish product/project CTQs.
  • Writes technical reports.
  • Acquires formulating knowledge and skills with regard to raw materials, materials processing and product performance requirements required to reduce to practice formulations that meet project CTQs.
  • Provides technical expertise/assistance.
  • May train others.
  • Initiates and administers codes.
  • Interacts with stakeholders (Product Management, Technical, Sales, Purchasing, Manufacturing, In-Plants, CTS, RCML, etc.) to set project goals and direction.
  • Monitors trials and pilot plant runs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Role-Specific Competencies / Function-Specific Knowledge and Skills:

  • Motivated to learn and perform new concepts, techniques and practices
  • Explores the use of new and alternate materials for the formulation of EC Pate Inks
  • Rigorously follows EH&S, RisQ, EtQ ISO, SOP, JHA protocols
  • Possesses good writing, reporting and presentation skills
  • Able to work in a cross-functional team
  • Computer skills to include use of Excel, Word, Power Point and SAP

Minimum Education and Experience:

High school graduate, some related college courses preferred. 5+ years of experience in Litho Offset Printing and Presses with a concentration utilizing Energy Curable materials.

Key Relationships:

- EC Paste Ink Manager

Reports to EC Paste Ink Manager or designated EC Paste Ink Team Member.

- Product Development Specialist/Chemist

Provide regular verbal and written project/results updates and communicate timeline/status for assigned tasks.

- Technicians

Support projects in collaboration with other EC Paste Ink team members.

- Field Technical liaisons

Communicate results and recommendations, transfer of data
