Job Title: Medical Technologist
Job Description
Perform a wide range of laboratory tests on various patient samples. The role requires accurate collection and processing of samples, operating and maintaining diverse equipment, and skillfully conducting tests across multiple disciplines. Ensure diligent analysis and quality results are available to healthcare providers. Maintain patient confidentiality, adhere to safety regulations, and stay up-to-date with laboratory practices while working with a team of highly skilled medical laboratory professionals.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests in hematology, microbiology, molecular, immunology, chemistry, blood bank, coagulation, and urinalysis.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses on samples such as blood, urine, stool, tissue, and body fluids under supervision as required.
- Perform quality control on test results to ensure validity and accuracy.
- Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes.
- Develop and maintain cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes and isolate specimens using advanced laboratory techniques.
- Keep records and report results according to established procedures.
- Practice safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
- Monitor and maintain adequate supply inventory needed for testing.
- Act as a resource person and specialty expert.
- Perform calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy.
- Perform collections from patients using venipuncture, finger sticks, or other approved methods.
- Prepare specimens and supplies for transport and/or shipping following procedures and policies.
- Perform forensic urine drug collection and breath alcohol tests.
- Compile performance study data using programs such as Excel and EP Evaluator.
- Train and assess competency of staff as designated.
- Provide morgue services, following all procedures to meet regulatory requirements.
- Assist with viewing of the patient's body and morgue census coordination.
- Provide other laboratory support as needed.
- Perform, report, review, and evaluate proficiency testing samples for waived and non-waived tests.
- Instruct new employees and students in routine procedures.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution for Medical Technologist/Specialist.
- Associate degree in medical laboratory technology/technician from an accredited institution for Medical Laboratory Technician.
- Certified or licensed as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Technologist or Specialist in the assigned laboratory discipline by an agency recognized by the Hawaii Department of Health State Laboratories Division.
- Hawaii State license as a Technologist, Technician, or Specialist.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.68/hr.
