Laboratory Technician I

The Laboratory Technician I (LT1) is responsible for navigating day-to-day laboratory operations. Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the LT1 will use various extraction methods including solventless, ethanol, and hydrocarbon, with the goal of optimizing lab procedures and producing consistent, safe, and quality products. Communication, organization, attention to safety, and time management are essential skills for this role. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, ambitious, and possess a strong work ethic, high attention to detail, and the ability to take direction in a team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform ethanol extraction (Delta Separations CUP-15), winterization/filtration (Summit Research P.I.G.), and further processing (Colorado Extraction Systems Spray Vap solvent recovery and d ecarboxylation)
  • Perform distillation (BR Instruments Spinning Band) or hydrocarbon extraction (ETS MEP)
  • Perform solventless extraction
  • Provide analytic s support as necessary
  • Handle all data capture, ensuring accuracy, precision, and completeness
  • Manage monthly inventory auditing and reporting
  • Effectively communicate projects, findings, and feedback to the management team to improve processes and core functions
  • Handle and dispose of all green waste material in a compliant manner
  • Ensure lab is organized, cleaned daily, and logs are complete by EOD
  • Assess inventory of consumable items and submit product requisition requests as needed
  • Basic understanding and use of METRC
  • Assist in trai ning new technicians
  • Keep all raw materials, work in progress, and finished goods in locked secure areas when the lab is left unattended
  • Ensure all operations in the lab are fully compliant and safe
  • Update SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) as needed
  • Complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner according to company SOPs
  • Maintain consistent attendance
  • Continually increase knowledge of products, policies, procedures, and industry standards
  • Comply with all internal and external standards & regulations
  • Adhere to all safety policies and always wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Help create a proactive and positive environment; encourage a positive attitude and self-motivation to help produce a high-quality product, while meeting and/or exceeding personal and/or company goals

Qualifications:

  • Two + year degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, engineering, natural sciences or related field (preferred)
  • Knowledge of medical marijuana law and medicinal benefits (preferred)
  • Knowledge and experience in various cannabis extraction methods and techniques (preferred)
  • At least one (1) year industry experience (preferred)
  • At least one ( 1 ) year laboratory experience (preferred)
  • Ability to demonstrate ownership, accountability, initiative, and quality of work
  • Skilled in analyzing potential problems with a plant or the product being processed
  • Adapt quickly to changes in policy, procedure, methods, and techniques
  • Maintain high attention to detail while completing multiple tasks
  • Positive, team-centered attitude with solid interpersonal, written and communication skills

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Able to stand for extended periods, and kneel, stoop, bend, twist, in tight areas
  • Able to lift , up to 50 pounds
  • Repetitive use of hands for all functions
  • Willingness to work in windowless laboratories and enclosed rooms
