Experience with multiple-scattering theory (MST), including mathematical derivation, coding and application within electronic-structure methods.
Experience using MST-based KKR Greens function methods to calculate structural magnetic, electronic and stability properties of alloys and compounds.
Experience with programming FORTRAN modules.
Experience with software engineering , especially for electronic-structure code. Demonstrated knowledge of relativistic physics, e.g., spin-orbit, and exchange-correlation methods in density-functional theory within Greens function approach. Job Description:

The Ames National Laboratory at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a Scientist I who will provide advanced level technical support to develop advanced algorithms, parallel computing capabilities, and software engineering of Greens function based multiple-scattering code for computing the electronic structure and energetics associated with solids, including at extreme temperatures and pressures, and to perform calculations of designer alloys and simulations of plasmas.

Additionally, the position will require application of code for applied program involving ARPA-E (Advanced Research Projects Agency Energy) magnet development. Position requires analyzing research results under the general supervision of the Group Leader to support DOE- and industrially-sponsored research, with close collaboration with experimental scientist on designer materials. Scope of the research involves theoretical and computational activities for alloy design, prediction, and materials characterization to help guide experiment in a rapid design project.

Incumbent will collaborate with the supervisor/group leader in designing and developing appropriate code and materials-related applications to accomplish goals. This position interfaces with researchers at Ames Lab other national labs involved in co-developments and applications. Incumbent may also assist with day-to-day supervision of research activities of graduate and undergraduate students on related project(s). In addition, this position will assume the required safety duties. The successful candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills; and the ability to plan, initiate and execute theoretical research in collaboration with multiple PIs, both local and remote.

This is a part-time (20 hours per week) and TERM position for 8 months.
