Staff Technical Program Manager, Chemical Engineering

We are seeking a Staff Technical Program Manager, Chemical Engineering to lead strategically critical programs focused on the development, scale-up, and deployment of next-generation chemical processes. This role bridges scientific innovation and operational execution, ensuring that groundbreaking chemical technologies move efficiently from concept to commercialization.

You will not only manage the day-to-day execution of chemical R&D and scale-up programs but also contribute to Redwood's strategic technology planning-helping prioritize investments, identify risks, and align cross-functional resources to accelerate time to market.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead technical programs involving chemical process development, validation, and commercialization
  • Partner with R&D, process engineering, and manufacturing teams to define program strategy, scope, and success metrics
  • Provide strategic input into technology development plans, pilot plant investments, and capital budgeting decisions
  • Collaborate with senior technical and business leadership to evaluate feasibility, readiness, and business impact of new chemical technologies
  • Translate complex chemical and materials science concepts into actionable engineering and program deliverables
  • Build and maintain integrated program schedules, risk assessments, and resource forecasts
  • Ensure compliance with chemical safety, environmental standards, and regulatory requirements across all stages of process deployment
  • Help define scale-up strategy including equipment selection, facility needs, and production readiness plans

Desired Qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline
  • 7+ years of program or project management experience in a chemical or advanced materials environment
  • Experience with strategic technology planning and early-stage process development
  • Strong understanding of process design, scale-up, and the technical-commercial interface
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent programs with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and leadership skills
  • Proficiency with tools like Jira, MS Project, and cloud-based collaboration platforms
  • Passion for sustainability, clean energy, and materials innovation

Physical Requirements:

  • Wear proper PPE when necessary

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: office, machine shop, wet laboratory, chemical plant, outdoor test sites
  • Travel required as needed, less than 10%
