Environmental Scientist/Compliance Monitor The role requires working 10-hour days, Monday through Saturday , likely starting at 7:00 AM . Upon completion of onboarding, the employee will commute directly to the project site using their personal vehicle. While on site, a fleet vehicle will be provided for use strictly within the project area and must remain on location at all times. Overtime pay will comply with Ohio state labor laws .
Valid driver's license is required.
Position Overview:We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Monitor to support a large-scale solar energy project in Franklin County, OH . This on-site position is responsible for observing construction activities to ensure compliance with relevant environmental laws, permits, and project-specific commitments. The monitor will also assist in protecting biological, cultural, and environmental resources by conducting inspections and documenting findings.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct daily site inspections and walk-throughs to ensure environmental compliance.
Monitor construction activities and confirm adherence to applicable permits and regulatory requirements.
Document and report any deviations or non-compliance.
Prepare and submit bi-weekly inspection reports and maintain daily activity logs.
Participate in bi-weekly team meetings.
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Natural Resources, or a closely related field from an accredited institution (this is mandatory and must be clearly listed on the resume).
1 to 4 years of relevant experience (overqualified candidates will not be considered).
Practical experience with environmental compliance monitoringideally in renewable energy projects.
Solid understanding of Ohio environmental regulations and permitting frameworks, especially:
NPDES SWPPP/ESCP permitting (non-negotiable requirement)
Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act
USACE Permitting, Ohio EPA & ODNR guidelines
National Historic Preservation Act
Familiarity with:
SWPPP inspections
BMP implementation
Spill prevention protocols
Construction-related environmental permits
Strong communication, observational, and reporting skills.
Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
OSHA 10 certification or other relevant certifications.
