Role Purpose Buildings account for 40% of the energy consumption in the U.S.A., and although windows compose only 8% if a typical single family home surface area, they represent 45% of the thermal energy loss through the building envelope. Corning has recently launched an award-winning innovation - Corning Enlighten Glass - to increase the performance of integrated glazing units (IGU). It enables making high performance multiple panes IGU without non-value-add weight. This innovation is just starting to scale in the architecture industry.
Corning Advanced Windows team is looking for 1-4 co-op engineering students. Embedded in a team of experienced engineers and operators from Corning and its customers, you will be at the forefront of advanced IGU manufacturing in the U.S.
Scope of Position:
Increase throughput of cutting-edge architectural integrated glazing unit (IGU) manufacturing lines processing Corning new ultra-thin glass product.Key Responsibilities
Make model to define hourly manufacturing throughput target based on the specific SKU mix being run.
Make a tool to optimize daily manufacturing product scheduling for maximized throughput
Document the pareto of throughput and quality miss, analyze root causes, propose and implement corrective actions
Increase overall equipment effectiveness
Define and improve process capability: Document operating procedure, measure process capability, prioritize improvements required, define and analyze experimental plans.
Deliver a manufacturing performance dashboard that defines and tracks performance on multiple time scales (from hourly to define operation target to monthly for executive reviews)
Prepare and deliver oral and written communication to share progress with various audiences, from operators to executives.
Increase throughput in two manufacturing locations to meet consistently target number of units per shift
Experiences/Education - Required
6 month co-op (Fall 2025 - 2026)
Enrolled in BS or MS program in engineering discipline (Mechanical or Industrial) with a graduation date of May 2026 - May 2027
Course work completed to include first & second year engineering studies.
Must be available to travel domestically for up to 50% of the time.
Required Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
Data analysis with Excel, statistical analysis, design of experiments
Creativity in approach to solutions, experimental design, and results analysis.
Results-oriented
Computer literate in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Location of role is Corning, NY with travel to customer site locations

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
