Duties

The selectee will serve as a Network Intrusion Forensic Analyst in the Office of Field Operations, Sacramento Resident Office. Typical work assignments include:

  • Serving as a Network Intrusion Forensic Analyst performing digital forensic examinations and live analysis on operational computer systems and /or networks.
  • Serving as a digital forensic analyst who utilizes specialized hardware and software to conduct complex digital forensic analysis in support of complex criminal investigations.
  • Preparing technical written reports detailing the findings of their examination of digital evidence.
  • Serving and testifying as a witness at trials in support of criminal proceedings.

Qualifications

To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying.

You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting salary $98,236.00) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level performing duties such as:

  • Utilizing technical equipment and software to conduct network intrusion investigations, digital forensics and mobile forensics to support criminal cases.
  • Providing computer forensic support to law enforcement investigations such as evidence seizure, data recovery and training.
  • Assisting in the identification and collection of digital and/or mobile evidence to used in support of a criminal investigation.

You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $116,816) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as:

  • Conducting computer forensic analysis or network forensic analysis, and mobile device forensic analysis.
  • Providing computer forensic support to law enforcement investigations such as evidence seizure, data recovery, and training.

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current competitive service employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50, "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility.
