We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Field Process Engineer (FPE) to join our team in Boise, Idaho. This role is critical in driving onsite process development in collaboration with customer R&D and technology development teams. The FPE will lead the joint development and qualification of new systems and products, ensuring successful integration and performance at customer sites. Candidates with more experience may be considered for higher job grades or senior roles.

Key Responsibilities

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Receive training from Business Units on newly developed deposition processes (e.g., PEALD, PECVD, Epitaxy, LPCVD) and hardware.
  • Manage the introduction and transfer of these processes to customer sites.
  • Collaborate with field hardware, service, and sales teams, as well as Business Units, to troubleshoot new product issues and propose design/process improvements.
  • Conduct joint experiments with customers to validate and optimize new technologies.
  • Escalate technical issues promptly to ensure timely resolution and adherence to project timelines.
  • Document learnings and contribute to the development of installation qualification (IQ), hardware, and process rollout packages.
  • Lead knowledge transfer to local process and service teams at manufacturing sites.
  • Provide deep technical expertise in process and equipment, ensuring successful NPI implementation.

On-Site Process Development

  • Support customer deposition process and hardware development, including new development and continuous improvement projects (CIP).
  • Design and execute experiments in collaboration with customers to meet development and integration goals.
  • Analyze baseline process/system performance and identify gaps relative to technology node requirements.
  • Perform root cause analysis of system performance issues and non-conformances.
  • Identify and develop new opportunities for ASM process and hardware adoption at customer sites.

High Volume Manufacturing (HVM) Process Transfer

  • Lead the transfer of developed processes to HVM fabs and ensure effective knowledge handover to local field teams.
  • Document and maintain process and hardware learnings from development phases.
  • Develop and transfer Best Known Methods (BKMs) to HVM site teams to ensure consistent performance and quality.

Education Requirements

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience and Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a process engineer, or a combination of academic and industry experience in thin film deposition techniques.
  • Proven expertise in processing, developing, and characterizing thin films using deposition reactors such as thermal ALD, plasma-enhanced ALD, PECVD, and Epitaxy.
  • Crucial: Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with DRAM and NAND device integration and technology development.
  • Crucial: Proven experience in advanced packaging integration and process development, including wafer-level hybrid bonding, fusion bonding, die-to-wafer bonding, and HBM.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in vacuum techniques, film characterization and metrology, and thin film ALD deposition processes and equipment.
  • Preference given to candidates with a track record of optimizing film deposition and process development, especially with ASM ALD, PEALD, PECVD, and Epitaxy.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOEs), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and statistical analysis methods.
  • Proactive in supporting escalations, developing and managing action plans, and facilitating clear communication among customers, local service teams, and business units.
  • Willingness to travel to Business Units for training and technical engagement, and to customer sites as needed. While the primary focus is onsite in Boise, travel may be required for escalations, process transfers, and support of HVM sites both domestically and internationally.
  • Strong understanding of Intellectual Property (IP) boundaries between ASM and customers, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and compliance in all interactions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts in a concise and professional manner.
