Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team, focusing on the testing and analysis of materials and chemicals used in our products. This role is critical in ensuring the quality and performance of our cutting-edge battery cells and materials. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or a relevant field, and experience with laboratory operations, material testing, and chemical analysis.
- Perform advanced material and chemical testing, including tensile, hardness, electrical tests, and chemical analysis such as electrolyte composition and moisture content
- Prepare samples for advanced characterization techniques and conduct visual inspections using microscopes, particle size distribution, and powder properties
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot testing equipment such as KF titrator, TGA, DSC, CT Scanner, profilometer, and machine shop tools like metallographic cutter and angle grinder
- Interpret complex test data, create detailed reports, and deliver actionable insights to guide quality operations
- Lead instrument calibration, method development, and test validation including MSA and GRR for cell manufacturing analysis
- Ensure laboratory cleanliness, maintain consumable inventories, and refine testing procedures to meet operational standards
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, and coordinate with external vendors for repairs
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or related field with 2+ years of experience in lab operations, material testing, and chemical analysis or equivalent experience
- Proficiency with laboratory instruments, material testing techniques, and machine shop equipment
- Ability to quickly adapt to proprietary testing methods and specialized equipment
- Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with LIMS or internal quality systems
- Fluency in English written and verbal for effective communication and documentation
- Ability to wear PPE including powered air-purifying respirators PAPR
