The Opportunity

"As a principal scientist, youll have a unique opportunity to build, train and deploy FICOs range of AI models. As part of a small team, your contributions will shape the technology and architecture of our newest models, which span language, structured transactional data and other modalities." What Youll Contribute

  • Develop AI models, as well as the high-level analytic deliverables and innovation projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., Pre-sales, Product Management, Development) to meet project roadmaps and delivery timelines.

  • IP creation of algorithms and systems, leading to patent files.

  • Communicating to high-level stakeholders internally and externally.

  • Conduct hands-on analysis of large historical datasets to identify the best modeling techniques, demonstrating expertise in various algorithms and modeling processes with cutting-edge analytic techniques.

  • Guide and mentor scientists to support their career development.

  • Understand the needs of FICOs clients (in financial services and other areas) and translate those into products, models and software.

  • Drive innovation and inorganic growth of new and existing analytic products through offering and promoting refined ideas.

What Were Seeking

  • MS or PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, other related fields.

  • Extensive experience in machine learning and AI model development.

  • Experience with distributed training of modern AI architectures (transformers, encoders, decoders, language models, diffusion).

  • Experience with Reinforcement Learning (RL) and Self Supervised Learning (SSL).

  • Experience working with large datasets across diverse modalities.

  • Excellent software engineering skills, and experience in Python, Rust, PyTorch, C++, Java, Kotlin. Real-world experience with distributed systems and concurrency.

  • Extensive experience in analyzing large datasets using Python, Perl, or Bash, including data cleaning and statistical analysis to uncover insights.

  • Prior experience managing high quality, on-time model development projects and driving innovation in the modeling process and offerings.

  • Requires full-time on-site presence at the FICO San Diego, CA.

  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.

  • The targeted base pay range for this role is: $154,000 to $242,000 with this range reflecting differences in candidate knowledge, skills and experience.
