The Department of Sociology at Brown University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to start on September 1, 2025, funded by the Dean of the College. An initial term of appointment is one year with renewal possible, based on funding, need, and performance. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in sociology or a related social science discipline at the time of appointment. The position provides a competitive stipend plus benefits.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work in close collaboration with Professor Scott Frickel in developing a new, multimethod research project on regulatory science, environmental hazards, and the dynamics of urban development. A central feature of the study will involve digitization and analysis of government documents related to investigation, remediation, and redevelopment of hazardous sites. Applicants with training in computational methods (e.g. text analysis, pattern identification, network analysis, feature recognition), strong programming skills, data management experience, and interests in social and environmental dimensions of urban change processes are especially encouraged to apply.
