Reports to: Senior Curator, American, Folk & Self Taught Art FLSA: United States of America (Exempt) Employment Status: Regular/Full time This position supports the activities of the Curatorial department in research, writing, interpretation, and working with colleagues, artists, visitors, dealers, and patrons toward the completion of designated exhibition- and collections-based projects. The position assists and works directly with designated curators for each termed project assigned and liaises with relevant staff, notably, but not limited to, that of the Museum's departments Education and of Collections and Exhibitions. Salary: $49,000.00 Work Schedule: 40 hours per week 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: As directed by curator/project lead assisting with research, cataloguing, and installing works for select exhibition and collection projects. Assist curator in all aspects of exhibition research, development, and implementation including, but not limited to, development and maintenance of object catalogue records, checklists, loan correspondence, exhibition precis, fact sheet, venue materials, gallery text and related didactics. Assist curators in preparation and development of exhibition catalogue and/or HMA Link (digital) publications including researching, writing, and proofing essays, object entries, and various back matter resources. Coordinate with curators, conservation, and Collections and Exhibitions department to plan and facilitate related object reviews for projects. Assist in outreach to constituent communities and development for projects, supporting the efforts of Education, Communications, Development, Communications, and related teams. Respond to (internal and external) requests regarding projects and, as needed, coordinate with appropriate staff for further review and response. Work with administrative and other staff to coordinate scholar and artist travel, meetings, lectures and symposia, receptions, etc. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience MA or other advanced degree in Art History, Anthropology, History, or relevant field strongly preferred. Knowledge of art history required. Prior museum or gallery experience highly desirable. Skills and Abilities: Exceptional research skills. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written. Exceptional organizational skills and high attention to detail. Ability to work independently, efficiently, and accurately with little supervision. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, as part of a team. Ability to interact professionally with the public, dealers, and patrons. Ability to solve problems and quickly prioritize needs in a variety of situations. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (email/scheduling) and similar programs. Training on The Museum System (TMS), financial tracking system (WorkDay), and Donor Tracking Database (TESS) and Trello will be provided.
