Overview

Do you have an interest in science and engineering, particularly protecting the environment and public health? Do you enjoy working directly with Vermonters to help them understand how to protect their groundwater? This may be the position for you! The Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill an Environmental Analyst III position in the Department of Environmental Conservation's Drinking Water and Groundwater Protection Division.

This position works amongst an experienced team and will work closely with engineering consultants, licensed designers, and the Public to ensure compliance with permitted soil-based wastewater systems and potable water supplies. This position will be responsible for permit logistics, technical document review and filing, and outreach to Vermonters. Work is accomplished primarily in a standard office setting but can require travel to various meetings, for which access to reliable transportation for in-state travel may occasionally be necessary.

Considerations for teleworking are a possibility in consultation with the supervisor.

Ideal candidates will possess strong computer skills in a Microsoft Suite environment, document editing abilities, excellent communication skills with a particular focus on phone and email communication, and the ability to work well with the public and coordinate with colleagues in other DEC and government programs. Familiarity with entering information into and retrieving information from custom data bases is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Determining WW Program compliance requirements and tracking those requirements to fulfilment or enforcement
  • Review and evaluation of technical drawings and reports
  • Outreach, education, and technical assistance to the Public and individuals in the field
  • Collaborates and guides other members of the Compliance, Outreach, Operations, and Logistics Team
  • Development and implementation of compliance procedures for the Team

The ideal candidate possesses knowledge in engineering, principals relating to the function of wastewater systems and water supplies, possess the organization and skills needed for success across multiple digital platforms, demonstrates excellent communication and technical writing skills, is comfortable communicating with Vermont landowners, consultants, service providers, other DEC staff, and performs well in a team-based environment.
