Regular statewide travel will be a required aspect of this position. Being able to travel to and from College of Nursing locations is essential to this position.

Job Description

This is an in-person position at the Flagstaff Mountain Campus, sometimes requiring a nontraditional work schedule to accommodate the needs of the Simulation Center and College of Nursing students. The Simulationist acts as both simulation educator and facilitator. They facilitate the operation of nursing simulation lab, overseas the preparation, maintenance, inventory, and operation of nursing simulation equipment/supplies and collaborates with faculty including course development, outcomes including design, plan, implement and schedule simulation activities. The Simulationist ensures adherence to program policies, course objectives, program outcomes and current simulation best practice and safety measures. This position is a 12-month, full-time placement. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required. This position will report to Flagstaff Director and supervise the Flagstaff Instructional Lab Coordinator.

Simulation Lab Educator - 60%

Develop simulation curricula to support program and course outcomes.

Conduct debriefing within scope of knowledge or assist content expert with debriefing.

Incorporate best practice and evidenced-based research in program development with a focus on standardization and efficiencies across the healthcare continuum.

Coordinate the set up and maintenance of computer-based training programs for simulation.

Coordinate and supervise the general operation of the simulation laboratory to provide a wide variety of patient simulation experiences.

Provide recommendations for equipment and supply purchases anticipating future changes in technology.

Participate in program and curriculum review; offering suggestions concerning the improvement of curriculum in keeping with the mission and vision of the College.

Direct Lab Support and Maintenance - 25%

Oversee the set up and take down of simulation laboratory equipment - allowing for turnover of the simulation lab set up as necessary to accommodate multiple groups.

Oversee the regular maintenance and repair all simulation equipment, including:

Human patient simulators (HPS), computers, monitors and a variety of clinical medical equipment.

Audiovisual and debriefing systems.

Communicate effectively with manufacturers regarding warranty, maintenance, repair, update, and technology changes.

Coordinate upgrades to software and equipment as needed.

Provide technical support for task trainers (skills lab) and multimedia peripherals including, but not limited to:

Beds/examination tables, headwalls, patient monitors, and other health care equipment

Medication dispensing systems

Vital sign monitors

Organize and restock simulation laboratory supplies.

Divisional Administrative Expectations - 10%

Facilitate tours of simulation lab when needed.

Prepare and submit instructional records, reports, grades, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner meeting all deadlines, checking for accuracy, correctness and completeness of all data.

Exert an effort to remain current in discipline and instructional methods through professional development activities offered by the College and other opportunities including attendance at off-campus activities, webinars, etc., as feasible.

Serve on the SoN Simulation Committee.

Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings, and other announced co-curricular activities of the College.

Other - 5%

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Nursing or Healthcare related field from an accredited institution.

Two years full time clinical experience or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse.

A combination of related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to the above educational Minimum Requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution with specialization in Nurse Education.

1-year experience in the operation of simulation equipment including simulators, standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.

One year of previous teaching and clinical experience in critical care and/or medical surgical nursing.

One year of experience in healthcare simulation as an educator or simulation technician.

Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.

Current license to practice as a registered nurse in Arizona.

Commitment to obtain certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator within 2 years of hire date.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge:

Clinical knowledge and experience working as a registered nurse.

Understanding of simulation planning, preparation and implementation.

Understanding in the use of theoretical debriefing to support student achievements and course outcomes and objectives.

Understanding of formative, summative and high-stakes and the different simulation modalities.

Knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.

Skills:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with andwork effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful and cooperative working relationship.

Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.

Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center.

Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.

Abilities:

Maintains confidentiality of information.

Quickly learns new technology.

Expresses technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.

Ensures safety for all users.

Maintains laboratory to meet regulation and accreditation standards.

Follows simulation protocols for each course
