JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operations and personnel performing testing and reporting test results.

Accessibility to testing personnel at all times; testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation to resolve technical problems per policies and procedures established by the laboratory director or technical supervisor.

Is responsible for the day-to-day support of test performance by testing personnel.

Must be onsite to provide guidance testing performed by an individual in the absence of a general supervisor within 24 hours.

Is responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.

The Clinical Lab Director and/or technical supervisor delegates the lead Lab Tech to their responsibilities.

Assuring that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken, and the test system functions correctly.

Providing orientation to all testing personnel as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

CLIA requirements for high-complexity laboratories are for all testing personnel to possess at least an associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology. Education is the minimal equivalent of 60 semester hours, including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses (6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology, or any combination.

Training requires either completion of an approved/accredited clinical laboratory training program, which may be included in the 60 semester hours specified above, or at least 12 months of documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high-complexity testing.

Experience:

Must have 5 years of experience and be willing to work dayshift unless requested otherwise.

Licensure/Certification:

All testing personnel will have all educational diplomas or certificates as well as all state and federal licenses.

Education & employment special requirements

Have passed a board certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist

Licensure requirements are ASCP, NCA, AMT, or equivalent certification or eligibility for said certification. A West Virginia Clinical Laboratory License is required and must be renewed annually.

Possess such qualities as accuracy, dependability, flexibility, and confidentiality.

Excellent human compassion and customer service skills.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
