The Blood Component Laboratory Technician position supports the Blood Center by manufacturing a safe supply of blood and blood components to be used in our community hospitals. What you will be doing:

  • Performs Component Lab tasks and support inter-departmental operations according to applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including but not limited to manufacturing, quality control, and managing inventory of blood products.
  • Conducts Moderate Complexity testing in compliance with CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) requirements for bacterial sampling. This includes specimen processing, test performance, and accurate reporting of test results.
  • Performs Moderate Complexity testing per CLIA requirements for Bacterial Sampling. The testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and for reporting test results.
  • Maintains laboratory records, quality control policies, and follows established policies and procedures whenever corrective action needs to be applied

What you will bring to the role:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED. An associate's degree in a related field and 6+ months of experience in a production or manufacturing environment or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Current licensure issued by the state in which the position is located if licensing is required.
  • Knowledge and skills for proper specimen collection including patient preparation. This includes labeling, handling, processing, preparing, and transporting specimens.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures and how to implement them.
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, and listening) to engage with donors and employees of all backgrounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities to meet the needs of the blood center.

Additional information:

This position reports directly to the Lead Component Technician at our Bethlehem location and will be responsible for adhering to the following schedule:

2nd Shift- M-Th 3p-11p, Friday 12-8

Saturday 10-6 (every other) and Sunday 10-6 (6-8 week rotation) with rotating holidays
