The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology at the University of Virginia - School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding post-doctoral research associate. This is a training position in the lab of Dr. Mariano Garcia-Blanco.
The work of the Garcia-Blanco lab impacts directly on two critical problems in human health: acute viral infections and autoimmune diseases. Under the supervision of Dr. Mariano Garcia-Blanco, the research associate will participate in laboratory projects involving a combination of molecular and cell biology techniques to understand how RNA-binding proteins impact inflammatory processes. The research associate should have experience and proficiency in biochemistry of protein-RNA interactions, RNA methods and tissue culture. Additionally, the research associate should have a strong publication record and attention to detail and rigor.
Minimum Requirements
Doctoral degree in Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or related field.
Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Willingness to mentor junior members of the laboratory
Willingness to apply for independent funding

bioinformatic experience analyzing RNA
experience in molecular biology
experience with flow cytometry
experience in cell culture and sterile microbiology techniques
accuracy and attention to details
work concurrently on several projects and meet deadlines
demonstrated initiative in decision-making and problem solving
computer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint),
excellent written and verbal communication skills
self-motivation and eager to acquire new skills
