Learn more at Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking an Associate Scientist, Upstream Development located in Malvern, PA. The Associate Scientist will support upstream process development projects and manufacturing operations in Malvern, PA and may be responsible for leading process development, scale up, technical transfer, manufacturing or laboratory investigations, technical documentation and relevant regulatory submissions. Principal Responsibilities: + Mammalian cell culture from vial thaw to bioreactor production and harvest + Daily sampling, measurement, and analysis of cell culture performance + Participate in design of experiments + Perform study execution + Document experimental execution + Record and analyze data + Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and author technical reports + Participate in tech transfer, facility fit, and process scale up/ scale down + Leading and supporting technical transfer, process fit to plant, and person in plant activities by generating protocols, conducting lab-scale studies, guiding development and manufacturing teams, and offering expertise for GMP operations during new product introductions. + Participate in scientific investigations and trouble-shoot process issues that arise during development, technology transfer, or scale-up. + Contribute to regulatory filings. + The candidate is expected to work effectively in a team environment as well as contributing individually to meet project objectives and timelines. Other duties will be assigned, as necessary. Qualifications: + A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioengineering or a related discipline is required. Mater's degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioengineering or a related discipline is preferred. + A minimum of 2 years of relevant lab experience is preferred. + Knowledge of mammalian suspension cell culture processes, antibody expression, bioreactor operations, and other upstream cell culture topics is required. + Technical, hands-on experience with typical upstream unit operations (e.g. shake flask culture, bioreactor operation, harvest, medium preparation) is required. + Experience maintaining written records of work in the form of laboratory notebooks (paper or electronic), technology transfer documentation or technical reports is required. + Must have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. + Must be highly organized with an acute attention to details. + Must be goal-oriented and able to deliver on objectives with focus and determination. + The ability to adapt to rapid changes in project priorities and requirements and manage/pursue multiple projects with some supervision is required. + The ability to report data and present findings to management is required. + This position will require occasional weekend work.
