Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Conduct and implement respiratory surveillance activities for non-influenza respiratory pathogens.
- Conduct respiratory outbreak reviews on reported non-influenza outbreaks for completeness and accuracy.
- Serve as the subject matter expert and state-level reviewer for COVID-19 and multi-inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C).
- Work directly with local county health departments to identify, investigate, and report cases of MIS-C to CDC.
- Create and update existing guidance documents for county health departments on non-influenza respiratory pathogen surveillance and investigations.
- Collect, review, manage, and analyze non-influenza respiratory surveillance data from various data systems.
- Develop and manage existing respiratory surveillance tools and reports as directed.
- Conduct data validation and quality checks on non-influenza respiratory data.
- Collaborate and routinely meet with the Bureau of Public Health Laboratories (BPHL) and CDC on respiratory surveillance.
- Performs other respiratory duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to collect and analyze data; Ability to prepare written reports and presentations; Skills in statistical analyses; Knowledge of data management systems and statistical analysis software (i.e., R Studio and SAS); Ability to understand and interpret epidemiological/laboratory data; Knowledge of disease surveillance and disease surveillance systems; Knowledge of public health principles and practices; Knowledge of surveillance case definitions and state disease reporting rules; Skills to create data products for internal and external use; Skills to create, improve, implement surveillance activities; Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; Skills in MS Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint); Ability to be self-motivated, disciplined individual who can perform at a high level in a data concentrated environment; Ability to work both individually and as a team member; Skills in written and verbal communication.
