We are seeking a Tribologist to join our Research & Development [R&D] team on a full-time, direct basis at our Experimental Station facility in Wilmington, DE .

Are you a Scientist that is passionate about Tribology and its application at the intersection of semiconductor / electronics materials products & processes? If so, then we have an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Lead Scientist with our Electronics Emerging Technologies Group ! This team works on next-generation innovations across a diverse set of businesses serving the Semiconductor, Advanced Electronics Packaging, and Printed Circuit Board [PCB] industries. In this role, you will be exposed to our entire Electronics business portfolio while granted the opportunity to work across a variety of products, technologies, processes (internal & external), and projects! In collaboration with Technology Leaders and Data Scientists across our business segments, you will identify challenges & opportunities to pursue / create a portfolio of innovation projects as well as managing the related projects to deliver benefits for customers and our business partners!

Segments include Chemical Mechanical Planarization [CMP] pads & slurries, photo-lithography materials, advanced post-CMP cleans, etchants, advanced packaging solutions, advanced display & OLED materials, circuit imaging & metallization, and films & laminates will be targeted. This role is aligned with DuPonts future Electronics company, Qnity .

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Characterize the behavior of our products in internal and end-use applications.
• Work with Data Scientists to develop proprietary models that advance our understanding of interfacial science to create competitive advantage(s) that affect next-gen products, processes, and solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify high-value customer & internal process challenges at the intersection of products, processes (internal & external), and Data Science to develop an innovation portfolio (which you will own and drive!).
• Charter and manage innovation projects that bring the innovation portfolio to life!
• Collaborate with business partners to create and secure intellectual property for DuPont that sustains the gains of our innovations.
• Organize / share data while writing technical reports and presentations.
• Assist with upskilling the organization with respect to Tribology and its practical application(s) within our business.
• Network (internally & externally) to serve as our Tribology Subject Matter Expert [ SME ] and identify potential technology leads as well as new innovations for the Electronics business.
• This person will be expected to travel for work, as needed (domestic & international; up to 25%).
• Additional duties may be assigned, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic Requirements:

• Ph.D. in technical discipline (e.g.: Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, etc.).
• 5+ years of professional experience in Materials Science and/or R&D.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Deep practical experience in the field of Tribology; experience working with Chemical Mechanical Polishing / Planarization projects is a plus!
• Advanced understanding of relevant analytical methods (including materials, mechanical, and interfacial surface characterization techniques).
• Deep experience with developing Intellectual Property [IP] and trade secret management strategies.
• Proven ability to innovate and define new approaches to solve complex problems.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills; formal training / credentials with Six Sigma and/or professional project management techniques is preferred.
• Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment while demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to perform effectively in a fast paced, customer-focused business environment.
• Excellent communication skills (written & verbal).
