Platinum Group Metal Services (PGMS) is a leading refiner and recycler of precious group metals. The growing demand for low carbon and responsibly sourced products is creating growth opportunities in critical metals recycling and secondary refining, and as the worlds largest precious metals recycler, PGMS is a key player in the circular economy.

Design, specify, and implement materials processes for a wide range of fabricated products. In addition, improve and develop manufacturing tooling and techniques required to make these products. Both efforts will be directed toward reducing manufacturing costs, and precious metal working margins, while improving internal and external product quality.

Technical responsibility for several product types across manufacturing departments as assigned by the Operations team. Products may range from standard items manufactured in continuous stream, to one-piece, one-time only orders.

Incumbent will interface with Operations, Quality Assurance, and Scheduling on a daily basis. Work with Marketing and consult with customers and vendors as required by product responsibilities.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop material and processing parameters to achieve desired end-product properties and attributes based upon end customer specifications.
  • Improve process efficiencies and metal working margins in assigned production areas. Establish improved process monitoring and control to provide consistent quality product.
  • Responsible for the creation and control of all process engineering, CAD/CAM programming, and specialized tooling required for equipment projects.
  • Provide technical support for ongoing manufacturing operations within area of responsibility.
  • Develop and trial new processes to enable the manufacturing of products as requested by sales team.
  • Train hourly work force as necessary to properly operate equipment and produce products in selected areas.
  • Provides technical input into process hazard studies, capital projects, and incident investigations along with technical support to the site.
  • Communicates, coordinates, and implements equipment and instrument designs with EHS, maintenance and operations personnel.
  • Provide part drawings and tool design to support Manufacturing & Process Engineering. Ensure drawing changes are documented and timely.
  • Reviews incoming specifications and drawings for new products working closely with operations, engineering, and sales to ensure specifications can be met.
  • Drive data-based product capability assessments and process improvements.
  • Provide metallurgical expertise in the development of new or existing products.
  • Lead and facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action teams.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts as identified by analysingquality-related performance statistics.
  • Project management in leading capital expenditures related to new and upgraded equipment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting production equipment as needed.
  • Debug new equipment by bringing it up to full capacity on production jobs.

Requirements for the role:

  • BS degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering or related field.
  • 5 - 7 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of metal forming processes associated with manufacture of tube, wire and sheet product a plus
  • Proven work experience as CNC programmer
  • Strong knowledge of CNC programming and machine operation
  • Knowledge of welding and fabrication Desired
  • Familiarity with precious metals, and/or the application of products for use in the medical field a plus Desired
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Problem Solving, and Continuous Improvement
