Job Description Join a dynamic and fast-paced inpatient laboratory environment as a Medical Lab Scientist III, specializing in Blood Bank Medical Technology. You will be responsible for preparing patient samples, performing a range of laboratory tests, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of results to support quality patient care. Responsibilities
- Prepare patient samples for testing and determine the acceptability of specimens and results.
- Repeat specimen testing as necessary to ensure accuracy.
- Perform Hematology, Chemistry, and Urinalysis testing.
- Conduct laboratory tests and procedures using techniques such as ELISA, RNA extraction, and flow cytometry.
- Carry out manual, semi-automated, and automated biochemical, hematological, microbiological, and/or blood bank analyses on varied patient specimens.
- Maintain, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.
- Accurately prepare, label, and store reagents, standards, controls, and specimens for analysis.
- Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
- Recognize normal, abnormal, unusual, and critical results and take appropriate action as established by laboratory policy.
- Verify the accuracy of results and initiate corrective action when indicated.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or related science.
- Certified Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Lab Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) certification from ASCP, NCA, AMT, or AAB.
- Blood Bank experience is required.
- Experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting, including externships.
- Proficiency in hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and/or microscopy.
- Ability to operate and maintain laboratory instruments.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Experience with laboratory information systems is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Coachable and able to take and initiate feedback well.
- Proven history of reliability and positive attendance.
