Within our Analytical Services team, we have a functional service provider solution, which is a unique partnership that allows our customers to leverage the experience of our staff, while allowing you, the employee, to gain direct experience working onsite at a pharmaceutical/ biopharmaceutical company, all while maintaining full-time benefits.

  • We are looking for a talented candidate to fill an Associate Scientist position in the Structure Elucidation Group (SEG) in our client's South San Francisco site.
Key responsibilities:
  • The SEG, part of the Synthetic Molecule Pharmaceutical Sciences (SMPS) department, utilizes advanced analytical techniques including high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to support research activities in multiple pharmaceutical development projects.
  • Daily tasks will be comprised of approximately 50% routine wet lab operations (including but not limited to weighing samples, pipetting organic solvents, and diluting solutions), with the remaining 50% dedicated to instrument operation and data analysis.
  • The position requires regular meetings with SEG/SMPS colleagues and other stakeholders to develop experimental strategies, analyze data, and write reports.
  • The position requires performing instrument maintenance activities regularly, including calibration of HRMS systems and cryogen fills for NMR superconducting magnets.
  • Other duties include contributing to laboratory organization and cleanliness, and performing laboratory safety inspections with other members of SMPS.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in lab sciences such as Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or similar
  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0-2 years)

In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Hands-on experience in chemical analysis laboratory environments (for example, preparation and analysis of liquid samples).
  • We expect the candidate to have a basic understanding of organic and analytical chemistry.
  • Background in spectroscopic structure elucidation or previous experience with HPLC, HRMS, or NMR instrumentation is a plus.
  • Attention to detail and meticulous laboratory practices are required.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency using computer programs such as MS Office and/or Google suite.
  • Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team in collaborative work environments.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes and new project requirements.
  • Time management and project management skills.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $26.51$33.00.
