This is a hands-on, full-time role working at our location in Hatfield, PA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Predominantly performs hands-on, non-routine metallurgical evaluations with minimal supervision involving OEM projects, additive manufacturing analyses, SEM/EDS examinations, and metallurgical weld inspections.
  • Occasionally performs routine, metallurgical evaluations including, but not limited to grain size, microstructural characterization, surface contamination/alpha case, decarburization/carburization, intergranular attack/oxidation, ferrite by point count and ferriscope methods, microhardness, case depth, alloy depletion, porosity percentage, recast layer, A262 Practice A / sensitization, and hydrogen embrittlement.
  • Interprets specifications, procedures, and engineering drawings including ASTM, ASME, AMS, AS, ISO, SAE and PWA standards.
  • Analyzes welds by metallurgical methods per AWS, ASME, NAVSEA, etc.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of metallurgy and additive manufacturing principles.
  • Proficiently operates light optical and digital microscopes, stereoscopes, manual and automatic hardness testers, and SEM equipped with EDS.
  • Conducts SEM/EDS evaluations consisting of SE and BSE imaging, spot analysis, line scans, and X-ray mapping.
  • Provides guidance to Contract Review, Order Entry, Sample Distribution and customers on project related work.
  • Monitors scheduled completion dates and times to ensure that established deadlines are met.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires a minimum combination of education and related experience performing metallurgy or materials testing.

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field, and 4+ years of industry experience

  • Experience operating SEM/EDS is required

  • Experience with quantitative metallography is desired

  • Certificates, licenses, and registrations desired: Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)

  • Computer skills required: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Laboratory Management Systems and Software.

  • Other skills required: Mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, ability to work in a team environment, ability to multi-task and work in an up-tempo environment.

This position requires use of information or access to processes subject to national security controls under U.S. export laws including but not limited to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
