We are looking to immediately fill a Chemist (Inorganics) position in Reading, PA. The Chemist (Inorganics) generates analytical data to support environmental compliance and decision making. Analyses are performed following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on approved analytical methods using a variety of analytical techniques, equipment, and instrumentation. At STL, Our Chemists use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to identify samples to be analyzed, generate analytical data, and enter the data into LIMS. Laboratory schedules are driven by sample holding times and client due dates and require flexibility, communication, and teamwork. Our Chemists are challenged to continuously improve their skills and take on new responsibilities. Job Responsibilities: Execute preparation and analysis of client samples and Quality Control samples while maintaining quality, turnaround time and output standards as assigned by management; Develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of Laboratory systems, equipment, instrumentation, and technology including basic regulatory programs and client specific needs relative to assigned analyses; Utilize all LIMS features, without assistance, at appropriate times; Execute analyses consistently across a range of technologies; Support team with problem-solving related work disruptions; Identify and help implement procedural opportunities for time savings; Assess out of control data or analytical systems and propose sound root causes based on experience and research into reference, regulation, technology, and manufacturer; Identify, investigate, and correct instrument or method performance issues across at least one technology; Consistently present investigation plans, data, and conclusions via investigation reports or other approved formats. Utilize tables, charts, statistical analysis, etc., to support conclusions; Recommend and institutionalize maintenance, troubleshooting or other procedures for future use; Participate in internal and external audits; Own NCRs and sample investigation forms by completing forms in collaboration with quality, client services and management; Submit Document or LIMS requests; Execute SOP revisions or author new SOPs with Quality Dept; Provide Sample Investigation assessments and corrective action proposals; Perform audits of SOPs to reference methods, regulatory and accreditation requirements; Provide technically complex Sample Investigation responses in client-friendly language; Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Biological or Environmental Science required; Minimum of two (2) years of direct hands-on analytical lab experience required; Prior experience working with 300.0 and 300.1 methods, ammonia, titration, IC, SFA, and/or equivalent methods/equipment required; Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially excel and word) and other Windows software; Must be able to work first shift schedule Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM - 4 PM with the ability to support a monthly Saturday rotation. Physical Requirements Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 pounds periodically during each work shift; Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 10 pounds constantly. Engage in the following movements: Balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, picking, grasping, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion; The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines; The incumbent is potentially subject to conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: odors, gases, poor ventilation.
