This position supports NIH-funded research projects led by Dr. Kay Chen in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD). The person in this role will work closely with Dr. Chen to oversee a range of research activities, including IRB modifications, complex data analysis, language sample processing, research administration, and scholarly writing. This role is critical to the lab's research productivity, student training, and day-to-day operations. It requires a high degree of independence, proficiency in data science tools, and strong knowledge of research methodologies related to language and communication.
Duties/Responsibilities
Research Data Analysis and Experiment Support (40%)
Conduct language sample analysis using established and customized R scripts
Design and implement experimental paradigms using PsychoPy
Analyze behavioral and linguistic datasets; ensure data accuracy and quality control
Manuscript and Grant Writing Support (30%)
Draft and revise manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal submission
Prepare figures, tables, and data summaries for publication
Contribute to grant writing and technical reports for external funding agencies
Research Administration and Lab Coordination (20%)
Type here. Manage IRB protocols, study documentation, and research compliance tasks
Oversee project timelines, coordinate data collection, and maintain study records
Provide technical training to students on R, PsychoPy, and data processing workflows
Lab Operations and Mentorship (10%)
Organize shared data resources and codebooks
Assist in onboarding and mentoring student researchers
Maintain documentation and reproducibility across lab projects
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Psychology, Linguistics, or a closely related field
Minimum of 5 years of relevant research experience, including language sample analysis and research coordination
Proficiency in R and PsychoPy for data analysis and experimental design
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong foundation in language development, language sampling methods, and behavioral research design
Advanced programming skills in R for statistical analysis and data visualization
Demonstrated experience in building and running experiments using PsychoPy
Strong scientific writing skills and familiarity with APA formatting
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with NIH-funded projects
Familiarity with CHILDES, CLAN, or SALT language analysis tools
Prior experience training student researchers or managing research team
