Material Scientist- Industrial Energy & Technology

Are you looking for new opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to the

energy needs of tomorrow?

Join our Industry-Leading Team!

Reuter-Stokes designs, develops, and manufactures world-class sensor technology designed to provide precision measurements in the harshest environments, supporting critical industries across the globe, including:

  • The nuclear sector, where our unique neutron detection technology is essential for the safe and efficient operation of nuclear reactors. Every operational nuclear power plant on the planet with a Boiling Water Reactor relies on Reuter-Stokes technology

  • In the oil and gas industry, Reuter-Stokes downhole sensors are critical for enhancing directional drilling performance

  • Reuter-Stokes precise radiation measurement technology is widely deployed in homeland security, space exploration and other sectors

  • Reuter-Stokes flame trackers feature in half of the worlds gas turbines accruing more than 500 million operating hours.

Today, more than 100,000 Reuter-Stokes detectors are deployed around the world, providing accurate and reliable data that enable our customers to advance safety performance and productivity.

By joining our team, based in Twinsburg, Ohio (just outside Cleveland, OH), you will support a cross-functional, high-energy team working together to deliver the highest quality sensors for our clients. We pride ourselves on collaboration, operational excellence, and investing in the future. With a strong track record in the markets we serve, and an aggressive technology development plan, be part of our talented and committed team driving growth at Reuter-Stokes.

As a Material Scientist, you will be responsible for:

  • Working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team focused on sensor technology, in particular radiation detectors operating at high temperatures (greater than 500C).

  • The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive background in high-temperature materials, including metals, ceramics, composites, and/or coatings. A strong understanding of phase stability, microstructure-property relationships, and microstructural characterization is required

  • The candidate should be proficient in using modeling and experimental tools to address complex material science challenges. They should be willing and capable of acquiring specialized skills necessary for developing or selecting novel high-temperature materials for developing technology solutions related to the energy transition

  • The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to cross-functional teams and demonstrate technical leadership in their core area. They should build productive collaborations internally across various functions and businesses, as well as with strategic external partners (e.g., academia, national labs and other industry partners). Additionally, the candidate should be able to assess and accelerate the pace of technology development and deployment.

  • The ideal candidate with have extensive laboratory experience including but not limited to Scanning electron microscope (SEM) modalities include backscattered electron (BSE) imaging, secondary electron (SE) imaging, electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), LBSS, CT

  • Providing guidance and review of material selection for radiation detection and combustion measurement sensors operating at high temperatures.

  • Applying knowledge and skills to advise on issues of metallurgy, ceramics, and electroplating.

  • Providing guidance and review of joining processes such as welding, brazing, and soldering of materials.

  • Developing, set-up, and safely conduct experiments/tests to support material selection and process development for conceptual & prototype sensor systems.

  • Establishing robust materials analysis and qualification processes that leverage in-house as well as outside capabilities. This includes ensuring we have access to appropriate and up-to-date analytical equipment and associated qualified personnel.

  • Document work in written form, e.g. technical notes, design specifications, journal publications.

  • Presenting work achievements to the team, and when appropriate to the scientific community at technical conferences.
