The OpportunityGenentech is seeking a creative and highly accomplished scientist to develop and lead a research program in Computational Neuroscience/Neuroimmunology, focused on neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases such as Alzheimers, Parkinsons, ALS, and multiple sclerosis, in the department of OMNI Bioinformatics within the Computational Sciences division.
Responsibilities include
Strategic direction and execution of computational research into pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases using techniques such as gene expression, chromatin accessibility, human genetics, genetic screens and image analysis.
Development and execution, with Translational Medicine, of reverse translation strategy to leverage clinical trial samples and data to identify new drug targets for residual disease
Leading computational research in specialized areas such as neuroimmunology or microglial and lipid biology
Nomination of new entries to the Neuroscience department Target Assessment Portfolio
Serving as computational lead on pipeline programs as needed, supporting target validation, mechanism of action, safety, and biomarker studies.
Collaborating within the Genentech Computational Sciences division to deploy cutting-edge AI models to solve the above problems
In line with corporate strategy, contributing to and leading authorship of impactful scientific publications
The ideal candidate will have deep experience in the following types of analysis:
Patient tissue or CSF/PBMC atlases
Single-cell RNA-Seq, CITE-Seq, and immune repertoire (TCR/BCR)
Proteomic datasets from neurodegenerative disease patient tissue or biofluids
Use of human genetics to prioritize drug targets
Mouse and cellular models of neurodegenerative disease
Who you are
Senior Scientist
MD, PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent with in-depth training in a relevant field, and a deep understanding of both biological pathways relevant to neuroimmunology and computational methods to study these pathways.
A track record of impactful scientific achievement as demonstrated by co-first/lead as well as contributing author publications.
Excellent communication skills and evidence of success in complex, multidisciplinary environments are required.
Principal Scientist
MD, PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent with in-depth training in a relevant field, deep understanding of biological pathways relevant to neuroimmunology and computational methods to study these pathways, as well as successful postdoctoral research, or 3 years post-PhD equivalent experience.
A track record of impactful scientific achievement as demonstrated by co-first/lead as well as contributing author publications.
Excellent communication skills and evidence of success in complex, multidisciplinary environments are required.

Relocation benefits are available for this posting
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California for Senior Scientist is $128,200 - 238,000, and for Principal Scientist is $150-700 - 279,900. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
