PREP Research Associate
CHIPS Funded Project.

This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest and thus requires that such institutions be the recipients of a PREP award. The PREP program requires staff from a wide range of backgrounds to work on scientific research in many areas. Employees in this position will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.

Research Title:

Postdoctoral researcher

The work will entail:

Work with an interdisciplinary team to develop the experimental tools necessary for the characterization of scintillation materials in the extreme ultraviolet wavelength regime. Once tools are online, candidate will calibrate the tools and conduct measurements of scintillator materials for a final report.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Conduct literature review of candidate EUV scintillator materials and develop report based on review.

- Work with a multidisciplinary team to construct, calibrate, and operate a scintillator characterization tool(s).

- Interact with NIST staff to develop mechanical design of components for an ultra-high vacuum synchrotron end-station using CAD software.

- Run, optimize, and document data acquisition codes (LabVIEW and Python)

- Aid NIST staff in developing plans for integration of characterization systems into existing SURF III beamlines.

- Prepares written reports and documentation for sample measurement, operation of instrumentation and safety.

- Provide input for CHIPS quarterly progress reports.
