General Summary/Purpose
The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing is seeking a Senior Research Manager to lead the strategic development and research operations of the Neighborhood Nursing initiative. The Senior Research Manager will work under the direction of the pilot Principal Investigators (PIs), Dr. Sarah Szanton and Dr. Andre Nogueira, while exercising substantial independent judgment in research implementation and program evaluation.
The Neighborhood Nursing initiative aims to address critical gaps in the healthcare system by providing universal access to health and social care through a geographically-panel interdisciplinary team of registered nurses and community health workers. All care is based on people's strengths, goals, needs, and preferences of care, regardless of their financial resources or social status.
This position requires an experienced professional with a strong background in health systems and services research, community-engaged research program, and strategic partnerships, with emphasis on community health and nursing services in place-based initiatives. Ideal candidates are self-motivated, possess strong verbal and written communication skills, excel at building relationships and partnerships with community stakeholders, have strong organizational skills with attention to detail, and effectively handle multiple priorities while meeting deadlines with ease. Flexibility, organization, and critical thinking skills are essential.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the project PIs, the Senior Research Manager's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Leadership & Research Management
- Lead integration of knowledge and research coordination across multiple research programs.
- Lead integration of research reports across research programs.
- Develop intervention protocols, data collection tools, recruitment resources, IRBs, and staff training curriculum.
- Support evaluation of complex care models that address health equity.
- Manage large-scale and complex research and quality improvement programs.
- Contribute to research methodologies and help advance the theory and science of place-based care models.
- Coordinate multi-stakeholder collaboration and mobilization for systemic policy change, innovation, and sustainability.
- Manages staff, such as research assistants.
- Oversees consent, enrollment, and randomization of research participants.
- Follows up with participants as necessary (including in waitlist control arm).
Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Lead community organizing, community-engagement, advocacy, and outreach efforts related to research programs.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with community organizations, healthcare systems, and government agencies involved in the research programs.
- Facilitate community advisory board meetings.
- Represent the Neighborhood Nursing initiative in community forums and professional meetings.
- Facilitate communication between the research team, healthcare leadership teams at participating health systems, and community stakeholders.
Research & Scholarly Activities
- Work with quantitative and qualitative data to summarize results and inform research program improvements.
- Lead efforts in analyzing and interpreting complex research findings.
- Contribute substantially to publications, presentations, and reports to disseminate knowledge to key audiences.
- Participate in grant proposals.
- Create and submit study protocols for IRB approval.
- Oversee study administration, including timely execution of research tasks, data input, analysis, and quality, and program feedback, fidelity, and reporting.
- Synthesize research findings and technical data for dissemination to diverse audiences.
Administrative & Financial Management
- Manage program budget and resource allocation.
- Track expenditures against milestones and ensure alignment of financial spending against program goals.
- Prepare new task orders and proposals.
- Monitor contracts and invoicing.
- Work with Budget Analysts to ensure proper financial management.
Work Schedule/Workplace Modality
Full-Time, M-F, 8:30 am -5 pm
Hybrid, onsite 2-4 times per week at the School of Nursing (525 N. Wolfe Street, Baltimore, MD 21205)
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications (Required)
- Master's degree in nursing, public health, gerontology, or related field
- Five years of related work experience, including at least 3 years managing field operations for service, advocacy, or research programs
- Demonstrated experience working on large-scale and complex research or service projects involving multiple stakeholder types and marginalized populations
- Strong understanding of healthcare policies related to community health and nursing services
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and manage complex projects
- Experience with community-based research and outreach efforts
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in nursing, public health, or related field
- Experience with legislative advocacy and policy development
- Strong track record of successfully implementing community-based healthcare initiatives
- Publication record demonstrating scholarly contributions to community health or nursing research
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, REDCap, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, qualitative analysis software (e.g., MAXQDA, Atlas.ti), project management tools, and NIH-RePORTER
- Ability and willingness to travel
