Organization Background

Men’s Health Foundation is a nonprofit healthcare provider serving Los Angeles with primary care facilities in West Hollywood, Inglewood, and South Los Angeles, as well as operating Men’s Health Foundation Pharmacy and working closely with our research partner, Mills Clinical Research. Specialists in men’s health, many of our services focus on sexual health, especially HIV and STI treatment and prevention. Job Description Overview

Candidate Performs pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phase testing of moderate complexities as defined by Clinical Laboratory improvement Act/Amendment (CLIA). The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for the accuracy, reliability and timeliness of patient test results used for the diagnosis, management and treatment of patients. Communicates technical or general information to Senior CLS, laboratory manager, director and medical staff. Monitors routine laboratory functions, initiates corrective action and works to improve laboratory service and patient care.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency, competency and understanding of fundamental principles of clinical laboratory procedures with minimal amount of supervision.
  • Monitors and is accountable for test data, quality control, quality assurance, preventive maintenance, proficiency testing and all operations related to laboratory testing of moderate complexity procedures.
  • Notifies Laboratory Manager of any irregularities of factors, which may influence test results.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and test methods.
  • Identifies and resolves unusual laboratory situations and notifies laboratory Manager.
  • Assists in evaluating new tests procedures when requested.
  • Maintains overall safety (including chemical and biological) of the department in accordance with established safety, infection control and procedure protocols.
  • Monitors supplies and reagents and notifies appropriate parties of par levels.
  • As necessary and appropriate, may perform any clerical or other duties of support staff/laboratory assistants that may be assigned such as performing phlebotomy or sample Accessioning, and clearing of work area.
  • Participate in educational workshops, meetings, and seminars.
  • Accepts responsibility of assisting in work areas not primarily his/her own.
  • Other duties may be assigned, as required.
Qualifications
  • Valid California Clinical Medical Technician license required.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check to include a 7-year criminal, 10-year SSN & employer history reference check.
  • Must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • Must be willing to work in a different clinic locations.

  • Must be able to work flexible schedules
  • Must take yearly flu shot or wear mask during flu season and test for tuberculosis as required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Language Skills

Must be able to read, write and speak the English language fluently. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public in person.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dollar totals, monetary conversions, discounts, interest, fractions, decimals, percentages, area, and volume.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve technical and practical problems and deal with various intangibles in situations where only limited communication, support, information, and access exist. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills :

Must have good computer skills and be proficient in the use of systems to complete correspondence, documents, spreadsheets and presentations, such as Microsoft Outlook and Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
