Job Summary
We are seeking a Lead Research Scientist to join our Research & Development [R&D] team at our Experimental Station facility in Wilmington, DE .

This team has the potential to support any of the segments in the Electronics business, giving an excellent view into the entire business as well as the opportunity to work across a variety of technologies and projects. This person will collaborate closely with the R&D Materials team, Formulation team, Development Engineering, and commercial teams to develop / commercialize industry-leading products as we expand and grow our business!
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Synthesize / design / develop small molecules, monomers, and polymers for electronics applications; this includes multi-step synthetic organic & polymer chemistry.
- Utilize problem-solving techniques using multiple analytical & functional test procedures to identify and characterize material development barriers.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to drive New Product Development [NPD] from concept shaping / validation to scale-up / commercialization.
- Help establish project plans, monitor performance according to plan, and help deliver program goals & objectives.
- Create and secure intellectual property for DuPont.
- Collaborate with Product Stewardship and Regulatory to safely evaluate / assess new materials.
- Organize and share data, as well as developing technical reports & presentations.
- Network (internally & externally) to identify potential technology leads as well as new innovations for the Electronics business.
- Additional duties may be assigned, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Basic Requirements:
- M.S. in Chemistry or a related field (that includes polymer and/or organic synthesis).
- 5+ years of professional experience in Material Science and/or Chemical R&D.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field (that includes polymer and/or organic synthesis).
- Proven ability to innovate and define new approaches to solve complex problems.
- Proven ability to perform effectively in a fast paced, customer-focused business environment.
- Advanced technical expertise with polymer and small molecule design / synthesis, especially with a proven track record of accomplishment.
- Advanced understanding of analytical methods including polymer and film characterization techniques (GPC, NMR, IR, TGA, DSC, etc.); this person may be required to collaborate with leveraged analytical teams (when necessary).
- Proven ability to demonstrate safe behavior in a laboratory, especially with the ability to evaluate / document safety risks and reactivity concerns in multigram scale multi-step organic & polymer syntheses.
- Proven ability to contribute to (and thrive in) a team environment by demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills; this person is expected to demonstrate an aptitude and ability to act as a Mentor for earlier-career Scientists.
- Proven ability to display excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal).
