Job Summary A Clinical Lab Scientist performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Reports to: Director of Laboratory FLSA: Non-exempt Job Requirements Minimum Education Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Lab Services Preferred X Required Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Licenses: ASCP certification or eligibility required. Primary Source Verification: American Society for Clinical Pathology. Essential Functions Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing. Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner. Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards. Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment. Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician or registered nurse. Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment. Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested. Performs and determines accuracy of technical lab procedures. Maintains records of procedures performed, the patient results and the quality control required for all procedures performed. Maintains accurate and complete records of all quality control tests completed. Assures that all out-of-control procedures are followed and that there is documentation of remedial actions taken. Performs all preventive maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, as assigned. Reads and understands all procedure manuals on an annual basis. Collects biological specimens. Prepares and forwards biological specimens to appropriate reference laboratory according to departmental procedures. Provides instruction to students
ew employees with regard to procedures and departmental policies. Checks available supplies and reports deficiencies to supervisor in a timely manner so as to avoid shortages. Review procedure manual and sign off on procedures. Write and update procedures. Review quality control results and document as such. Contributes to a positive work climate and to the overall team approach to the laboratory. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization. Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to the continuous improvement and participate other related duties as assigned or requested. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
