Job Description:

We are searching for the best talent for a Principal Scientist, Anatomic Veterinary Pathologist in Cincinnati, OH

Purpose: Responsible for pathology support to project teams in the preclinical department. The primary responsibility will be performing or overseeing necropsies, performing microscopic evaluation and interpretation of tissue sections and generating pathology reports. The pathologist is a key member of project teams contributing to the preclinical project strategy, study planning and execution.

In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

  • Support preclinical testing of medical devices for efficacy, safety and biocompatibility assessments.
  • Perform or supervise necropsies and provide scientific guidance to pathology technicians to ensure accuracy and compliance with protocols, standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform microscopic evaluation and interpretation of tissue sections from animals undergoing surgical and/or or device implant procedures and correlate findings with gross findings and with other disciplines as applicable.
  • Generate comprehensive narrative pathology reports as a contributing scientist to the final report (GLP or non-GLP) to meet business timelines and goals.
  • Review study protocols and provide input on pathology methodology and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with study directors, scientists, clinical veterinarians and technicians.
  • Communicate the significance of pathological findings to project teams and key stakeholders.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal and external technicians supporting pathology work.
  • Attend pre-study meetings and department and pathology meetings.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required within the scope of the position.
  • Responsible for compliance with all applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures

Education:

  • DVM/VMD or equivalent.
  • Board certification by American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP)

Preferred Skills & Experiences:

  • Compliance and working knowledge of the GLP is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in the medical device industry, biotechnology setting, toxicologic pathology and/or diagnostic pathology is preferred.
  • Strong scientific interest, rigor, and curiosity
  • Team-player and excellent written/oral communication skills.

Other:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% (domestic and international may be required based on project needs)
