JOB SUMMARY
The Computational Scientist III will design, develop, and maintain robust systems and system models (i.e., Digital Twins) for opto-mechanical sensor systems that detect and identify biological threats. These models will be leveraged for requirements and concept generation, design and development, manufacturing, system troubleshooting, and logistical analysis.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Build from the ground up (and maintain) digital twins using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies.
- Develop digital twins to support troubleshooting and repair of production systems.
- Develop virtual representations of physical systems to support new technology development.
- Provide key contributions to system requirements development, trade studies, and architecture definition.
- Leverage Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning tools to maximize the accuracy and effectiveness of developed models.
- Prepare and maintain documentation related to computer code/scripts, including end-user guides and instructions.

Requirements
EDUCATION
Minimum Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field, Ph.D. Preferred
EXPERIENCE
3-5 years of related experience or 0 - 3 years experience with applicable Ph.D. level research in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or a related field.
SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be eligible to obtain and/or maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance commensurate with the level of facility clearance.
- Proficiency in systems engineering processes and principles
- Experience in developing a digital twin for spectroscopic, spectrometric, or electrochemical-based instrumentation
- Working-level knowledge of one or more of the following areas: optical spectroscopy, surface immobilization, molecular recognition, molecular biology, or aerosol physics
- Software programming/scripting proficiency in C, C#, Python, and/or MATLAB
- Optical modeling proficiency with Zemax or equivalent
- Working knowledge of software development practices such as version control systems (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps, Synergy CM)
- Working knowledge of statistics, experimental error, Design of Experiments, and quantification as it applies to scientific data
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning tools, as their application to physics-based models
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
- Ability to work independently and to interact effectively with individuals on multi-disciplinary teams
- Team player with a positive attitude
Preferred
- Experience in developing detailed optical specifications for spectroscopic instrumentation
- Development of interface software required to command and control excitation and imaging subsystems
- Ability to define, assemble, and test optical component breadboards for spectroscopic applications
- Previous research and development experience related to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and/or explosive (CBRNE) threats

The incumbent should be able to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance and 50 pounds with assistance to complete laboratory activities.

Incumbent will be required to complete company paid for medical monitoring.
