Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Experimental Scientist to join our team of qualified individuals. This position will be located in Linthicum, MD OR Annapolis Junction, MD. The qualified applicant will become part of the Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC).

As a member of our team, you will work on test design, device characterization, automation of data acquisition hardware in MATLAB and Python, experimental test stand improvement, analysis, presentation of data to multi-disciplinary teams, and cross-collaboration with the theory, design, simulation, and fabrication teams!

Successful candidates have some of the following:

  • Experience with solving complex problems.
  • Development and implementation of test protocols for novel experiments involving superconducting devices.
  • Experience with thermal, mechanical, and electrical isolation techniques.
  • Experience with RF, analog, or digital signal electronics.
  • Experience debugging existing software tools and implementing new capabilities.
  • Experience supporting the development of test platforms with function, cost, and schedule constraints.
  • Experience analyzing complex datasets, comparing data to simulation, and reporting on results.
  • Experience with RF test equipment such as: Oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators.

This position requires full time work onsite at our Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) in Linthicum, MD OR our Annapolis Junction, MD location.

This position can be filled at the Principal Experimental Scientist level OR Senior Principal Experimental Scientist level. Qualifications for both are listed below:

Basic Qualifications for Principal Experimental Scientist:

  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5 years of relevant experience; Master's degree in STEM related field with 3 years' of relevant technical experience OR Masters degree in STEM related field and currently enrolled in a PhD program with a completion date prior to start with 1 year of relevant technical experience OR PhD in STEM related field with 1 year of relevant technical experience.
  • One year of experience in a laboratory environment performing experiments, automating electronic test equipment, and analyzing experimental data.
  • Experience designing and executing experiments in an advanced Physics laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of cryogenic experimental practices.
  • Proficiency writing code in MATLAB and/or Python.
  • Basic circuit analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Clearance : Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance per customers requirements (U.S. Citizenship is a pre-requisite).

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Experimental Scientist:

  • PhD in experimental physics, electrical engineering, or another STEM field and 4 plus years' of relevant technical experience; Master's degree and 6 years of relevant technical experience; Bachelor's Degree and 8 plus years' of relevant technical experience.
  • Four years of experience in an electronics lab performing experiments, automating electronic device test equipment, and/or analyzing experimental electronic device data.
  • Experience designing and executing experiments in an advanced Physics laboratory setting.
  • A deep understanding of cryogenic experimental practices.
  • Circuit analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Clearance : Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance per customers requirements (U.S. Citizenship is a pre-requisite).

Preferred Qualifications for both Principal AND Sr. Principal Experimental Scientist:

  • PhD in experimental physics, electrical engineering, or another STEM field.
  • Technical leadership experience
  • Active U.S. Government security clearance.
Salary Range: $127,400.00 - $191,200.00Salary Range 2: $158,600.00 - $238,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
