The laboratory of Dr. Jeff Perry, Assistant Professor of Cancer Biology and Molecular Medicine at the City of Hope Medical Center, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate to join our dynamic research team. Our lab is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel small-molecule therapeutics for cancer and diabetes, with a strong emphasis on structural biology and biochemistry.

The Research Associate will primarily be responsible for protein expression and purification to support drug discovery efforts. Additional duties may include molecular cloning, biochemical assays, and crystallization screening.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Perform recombinant protein expression in bacterial systems.
  • Execute protein purification techniques using affinity, ion-exchange, size-exclusion chromatography, and FPLC systems.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Assist with molecular cloning, PCR, plasmid preparation, and related techniques.
  • Conduct biochemical assays to evaluate enzyme kinetics and ligand-binding interactions.
  • Participate in crystallization trials and screening to support structural biology projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with other lab members and communicate research findings in team meetings.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.
  • Two years related research/ laboratory experience with a Bachelor's degree or one year related research/ laboratory experience with a Master's degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with molecular cloning techniques, such as PCR, ligation, and plasmid construction.
  • Familiarity with biochemical assays, including enzyme activity assays, ELISA, and ligand-binding assays.
  • Prior experience or exposure to protein crystallization methods.
