Responsibilities
- Responsible for performing scientific experiments under the direction of the principal investigator related to immunology, infectious diseases, biochemistry, and structural biology.
- Experiments will include tissue culture, protein expression and purification, determination of protein structure complexes, immunological assays, managing day to day lab activities, and other related tasks as assigned to support the lab environment.
- Assures implementation of safety procedures and instructs lab members in procedures and operation of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain current knowledge of research techniques through library literature and attendance at campus seminars. Presents research findings through lab presentations and seminars. Other duties as assigned.
- Writing manuscripts and assisting the PI in reviewing and writing grants.
Qualifications
A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., etc.) in an appropriate field obtained within the last five years is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.
- Previous experience in the structural biology field, including cryo-electron microscopy. Experience in grid preparation, microscope operation, and theory of cryo-EM, as well as data processing and analysis.
- Previous experience in recombinant protein expression from bacterial and mammalian systems.
- In depth knowledge of immunology or virology concepts.
