Senior Scientist, Material Science, Archer Daniels Midland Company, Decatur IL. Work with cross functional teams across ADM Research to advance and support the ingredient portfolio across the areas of sustainable materials platform and Human Nutrition. Support the structure-function and lead across diverse business areas (e.g., Human & Animal Nutrition and Industrial areas). Contribute to a variety of cross-functional projects of innovative nature, to deliver value to the company and end consumers. Work with both ingredient science and product development teams in applying the principles of material science and physical chemistry. Drive product innovation while maximizing functionality of existing ingredient portfolio. Execute projects in colloid and interface science with understanding of emulsions, microemulsions, liposomes formulations and their characterization. Conduct informative data analysis and visualization to support material library design and research with familiarity in Python, Molecular Dynamics Simulations and MATLAB. Utilize advanced data interpretation methods to evaluate new materials, existing products, and processes to meet internal and external customer requirements. Design experiments and interpret the results and communicate to the project stake holders in timely manner. Partner with global R&D and leverage internal/external experts to bring forward the ideas and R&D solutions that drive innovation. 40 hrs/week, Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Salary: $98,448.00/yr. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. degree or foreign equivalent degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, or a related field, and three (3) years of related work experience. Must have three (3) years of experience with/in:
Ingredient science structure-function and their applications across food, feed, and industrial areas;
Instrumentation related to material characterization such as rheology, thermal analysis, particle size, zetapotential, rancimat, surface tensiometer, goniometer, spectroscopy, and microscopy;
Product development designing lipid delivery system to deliver a wide spectrum of bioactive ingredientssuch as preservatives, flavors, vitamins and minerals;
General molecular modeling techniques, including molecular simulation, quantum mechanics, andstructure-based design, to advance material science research;
Advanced molecular simulation and data analytics methods using software like GROMACS, HOOMD, VMD,or NAMD; and
Coarse-grain simulation methods and the chemistry and thermodynamics of complex systems such asproteins, carbohydrates, and lipids.
