The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in Alzheimers disease (AD) research. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented research scholar to study the role of cellular senescence in brain aging and AD pathogenesis. A growing body of evidence has demonstrated the implications of senescent cells in AD, and a set of senolytic drugs are being tested in clinical trials for AD treatment ( ). However, the precise cellular and molecular mechanisms by which age-associated accumulation of senescent cells in the brain affects AD pathogenesis and progression have yet to be determined. The successful candidate will utilize an array of state-of-the-art technologies and systems biology approach, including cellular & molecular biology techniques, single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial proteomics, supper-resolution confocal microscopy, and transgenic AD animal models, to map and characterize the dynamic changes of senescent cells in the brain during AD development and progression. The selected fellow can also gain research experience in drug discovery and development by participating in our ongoing preclinical studies aimed at evaluating the efficacy of a set of novel senolytics in preventing or delaying AD progression.
Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in neurobiology, molecular cell biology, neuroscience, or other related fields.
