We are seeking a Scientist III who is extraordinarily creative and has technical expertise and laboratory experience in virology, gene therapy, cell culture, and other biotechnology applications. This role will complement our interdisciplinary team of development scientists at our Hunt Valley, MD site. You will directly contribute to various projects and analysis of scientific data to build novel products and services and discover meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale. A Day in the Life:

Drive innovation and product development in gene therapy focused projects by crafting scientifically robust experimental plans, leading study execution, analyzing experimental data, interpreting results, and sharing findings with colleagues.
Expand knowledge through technical engagements and demonstrate expertise through customer interactions, internal collaborations, publications, and presentations at scientific conferences.
Lead complex scientific projects requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to arrive at innovative solutions.
Lead and/or support multiple projects simultaneously to assess new technologies, develop novel products, support customer needs, and drive process efficiencies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams for the commercialization of new products to meet customer needs.
Maintain efficient lab operations through routine activities such as cell culture maintenance, media/feed/supplement preparation, and maintenance of equipment, reagents, and supplies. Work effectively in BSL-2+ biocontainment laboratories with all relevant assays and culture systems.

Keys to Success:
Education
A Bachelors degree with 5+ years of experience, Masters degree with 3+ years of experience, or PhD in Virology, Microbiology, Biology, or related field with proven expertise in cell culture, handling/infectivity techniques of multiple viruses, and ability to perform and report technical work in a containment laboratory (BSL2+).

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience with AAV, Lentivirus, Adenovirus, and/or other Gene Therapy workflows (e.g., DNA transfection, viral transduction, viral infection).
Experience in adherent and suspension mammalian cell cultures (e.g., HEK293, Vero, MDCK).
Proficient in virus infectivity techniques: dPCR, qPCR for genomic titer; ELISA for particle titer; TCID50 and other assays. Understanding and skill to develop various immuno- and nucleic acid assays.

Proven record of working as a technical leader and an effective teammate with interpersonal skills to influence.
Competence in data analysis, research design, troubleshooting, and the evaluation of new techniques and procedures.
Digital literacy, including experience performing biostatistical analyses.
Strong organizational skills to efficiently evaluate and adapt to changing project priorities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to interpret and present scientific results in a clear, concise manner.

Preferred Qualifications:
Industrial experience in process development and/or cell culture media formulation.
Experience with insect cell lines.
Understanding of next-generation sequencing.
Experience with bench-top stirred tank bioreactors and/or high efficiency cell culture technologies (e.g., ambr15).

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Maryland is $91,799.00$120,000.00.
