As an Application Development Engineer with American Family you will embark on an exciting journey of collaboration, working with accomplished individuals to deliver and sustain the latest applications that create success. You will develop innovative solutions, handling challenges from simple to moderately complex with creativity. You will help propel the Payment Tech Team to new heights!
You will report to the Engineering Delivery Manager.
Position Compensation Range:
$78,000.00 - $128,000.00

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.
Primary Accountabilities
- Develop high-quality solutions that follow established standards, methodologies, and internal controls.
- Identify and understand system dependencies, integration points, and impacts of proposed changes, providing options and recommendations.
- Document design decisions, estimating assumptions, code modules, and performance metrics.
- Define, conduct, and participate in multiple testing phases (e.g., unit, system integration).
- Ensure software development meets standards for programming, design, performance, quality, and security.
- Collaborate with others to verify system flow, data usage, and processes, both manual and automated.
- Participate in team activities, taking on tasks to achieve team goals.
- Create, maintain, and enhance system documentation.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.
- Basic knowledge of integration and migration strategies and technologies.
- Experience with application architecture, design alternatives, and development standards.
- Experience developing complex systems using one or more programming languages.
- Experience interpreting, modifying, and writing application system design and program specifications.
- Experience using and supporting integration and communications technologies between applications, databases, and technology platforms.
- Experience with relational databases and standard query language (SQL).
- Experience with the systems development life cycle (SDLC).
- Solid knowledge of activities, tasks, tools, and techniques for testing applications to ensure adherence to functional and quality requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience with Java syntax and core concepts, including object-oriented programming principles.
- Ability to write simple SQL queries to retrieve and manipulate data.
- Proven ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and develop solutions.
- Experience diagnosing and resolving technical issues across multiple applications.
