Research Associate 1 - Neuro Rehabilitation Specialist

The University of Miami/UHealth department of The Miami Project has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time TEMP Research Associate 1 to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

Core Responsibilities

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

  • Participates in the publication of significant results.

  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.

  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

Department Specific Functions

Research Neuro Rehabilitation Specialist

  • Supports IRB-approved research studies on locomotor and upper limb recovery after spinal cord injury (SCI) under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) and licensed study team members. Performs research assistance, participant training, and data collection activities without independent clinical decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with protocol-driven assessments and training activities for walking and upper limb function.

  • Support participant setup, manual facilitation, cueing, and safe use of rehabilitation equipment.

  • Assist with transfers and provide basic participant care and handling during research sessions.

  • Assist with carrying out research activities of the laboratory, including supporting ongoing studies and experimental procedures.

  • Collect and document study outcomes (e.g., gait tests, neurophysiological data) in Case Report Forms.

  • Ensure participant safety during sessions, report adverse events, and follow emergency protocols as needed, with guided supervision and assistance from lab staff.

  • Assist with scheduling participant visits and coordinating session logistics.

  • Prepare research materials, organize equipment, and maintain laboratory readiness for study activities.

  • Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA compliance) and adhere to IRB protocols and university policies.

  • Participate in study training sessions, team meetings, and quality and safety improvement initiatives.

  • *All activities performed under direct supervision, strictly following IRB-approved protocols.

Core Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in relevant field

  • No prior experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
