Join the forefront of groundbreaking research at City of Hope where we're changing lives and making a real difference in the fight against cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses. Our dedicated and compassionate faculty and staff are driven by a common mission: Contribute to innovative approaches in predicting, preventing, and curing diseases, shaping the future of medicine through cutting-edge research.

City of Hope is in search of a talented Staff Scientist to join a new and growing translational research laboratory focused on understanding the determinants of response and resistance to immune-based therapies in lymphoid malignancies. The Staff Scientist will play a foundational role in shaping a dynamic, collaborative, and high-impact research environment. Our research centers on cutting-edge multimodal cell-free DNA (cfDNA) profiling to identify molecular determinants of treatment response, and on leveraging patient samples and preclinical models to understand how these factors shape the tumor microenvironment and drive therapeutic resistance.

The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in bioinformatics and cancer genomics to help advance these research goals. The Staff Scientist will be responsible for the development and execution of major research projects, as well as the supervision and mentorship of junior laboratory staff. They will also be expected to collaborate with other researchers and make significant, original contributions toward the laboratory's scientific aims.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Bring expertise in bioinformatics and cancer genomics to help advance these research goals.
  • Analyze high-throughput sequencing data to identify molecular determinants of cancer progression and therapeutic response.
  • Develop and apply computational pipelines to integrate genomic, transcriptomic, and clinical data from both tissue and liquid biopsies
  • Be responsible for the development and execution of major research projects, as well as the assistance of junior laboratory staff.
  • Be expected to collaborate with other researchers and make significant, original contributions toward the laboratory's scientific aims.

Your qualifications should include:

  • At a minimum, the U.S. equivalent Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Genetics or a related discipline.
  • A Ph.D. or other doctoral level degree is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English (both spoken and written) are essential in order facilitate the Staff Scientist's role in presenting research data, writing manuscripts and preparing grant applications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in cancer genomics and biostatistical methods, including survival analysis.
  • Experience with analysis of high throughput sequencing data (eg DNA-based genotyping, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, scRNA-Seq etc.).
  • Fluency in programming languages such as Python, R, Matlab, Perl; MySQL.
  • Experience working with UNIX/Linux environment.
  • Experience in nucleic acid isolation and sequencing library preparation.
  • Familiarity with cancer biology and tumor immunology.
