The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at North Dakota State University invites applications for residency training in veterinary toxicology. This is a one-year position, annually renewable up to three years with a strong emphasis on diagnostic laboratory medicine. The goal of this training program is to prepare trainees for successful completion of the American Board of Veterinary Toxicology (ABVT) certifying examination and a career in diagnostic toxicology.

Toxicology training will be primarily resident-driven with the goal of becoming competent in three core areas: (1) understanding of general toxicology principles, (2) knowledge/expertise in biological and non-biological toxins/toxicants, environmental implications, and regulations, and (3) laboratory management, communication, and professionalism. In consultation with the laboratory's boarded toxicologist and other laboratory faculty, the resident will serve as case coordinator on laboratory submissions. Additional training and academic opportunities on-site and off-site will be available to help the resident meet these core competencies. In addition, the resident will participate in veterinary and pathology rounds, presentations, seminars, and regional/national meetings and will be expected to prepare two manuscripts as required by ABVT.

Work Schedule: M-F, 8am to 5pm

Hiring Range:

Salary is based on the NIH post-doctoral scale, although a graduate degree in toxicology will qualify as additional years of experience

Minimum Qualifications:

(1) DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited or equivalent institution

(2) Eligibility to obtain a veterinary medicine license in the state of North Dakota

Preferred Qualifications:

(1) Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

(2) Demonstrated interest in toxicology

(3) North Dakota practitioner

(4) Ability to work independently, in small group settings, and one-on-one with the toxicologist and other faculty
