Title of Immediate Supervisor: Assistant Scientist II

I. Position Summary: Research Associate supporting the Healthy Aging Initiative (HAI) study, focused on assessing health and disease risk/protection factors in aging adults. This individual will serve as a Russian-English interpreter and research team member, supporting study assessments for Russian-speaking older adult populations with the assistance of other research team members. Tasks include facilitating participant communication, recruitment, assisting with data collection, translation of study materials, and conducting in-person assessments, primarily in Brookline.

III. Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports the HAI study team with participant screening, scheduling, and informed consent procedures in both Russian and English.
  • Assist with translating study questionnaires and interprets during assessments.
  • Aids in recruitment and retention of Russian-speaking participants.
  • Carries out research/development activities on a variety of products/projects both in collaboration with others and independently.
  • Assists with the translation and delivery of standardized assessments (e.g., cognition, gait, grip strength, BMI, vision, and hearing).
  • Contributes to project process within his/her scientific discipline.
  • Maintains high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment on significant research project matters by evaluating and comparing possible courses of action and deciding or recommendation after considering the various possibilities.
  • The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position.It does not, however, exclude other duties, which would be in conformity with the level of the position. Completes special projects as assigned.

IV Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in a scientific discipline, 5 - 8 years of related experience or M.S. degree in a scientific discipline, 2 - 5 years of related experience
  • Fluent in English and Russian.
  • General computer literacy and familiarity with data entry and document processing.
  • Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented individual. Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor.
  • Superb organizational skills. Must have solid analytical skills.
  • Must be motivated to learn and flexible to change.
