Your Role:

As a Focused Modality Applications Scientist at MilliporeSigma, you will play a key role in supporting the development of innovative tools and technologies for the bioprocessing, cell, and gene therapy markets. You will join a dynamic team specializing in small-scale upstream cell culture technologies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Generating application data, enhancing knowledge in the field, comparing performance of small-scale bioreactor products and processes versus bench-scale equivalents, testing and characterizing new equipment and technologies, and collaborating with diverse internal and external partners on application development projects
  • Having a broad understanding of biological modalities to assist in analyzing complex data sets, formulating hypotheses for unexpected results, and planning and executing follow-up experiments
  • Can independently manage experiments and effectively communicate results, contributing to a collaborative environment that values diverse perspectives

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or other Engineering discipline
  • 2+ years industry experience in bioreactor characterization and/or cell culture

OR

  • Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or other Engineering discipline

OR

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or other Engineering discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong expertise in one or more of upstream CHO, HEK, T-cell culture
  • Experience with banking, mammalian/human cell culture, transfection/ infection, bioreactor operation, and harvest with a focus on AAV production
  • Experience in cell culture process development, scale-up/scale-down, and tech transfer, including hands-on expertise with scalable bio-production platforms and equipment
  • Exposure to analytical techniques such as qPCR/dPCR, ELISA-based assays, Mass Photometry, flow cytometry, raman spectroscopy, or transcriptomics/proteomics/metabolomics
  • Familiarity with downstream processing for monoclonal antibodies or viral vectors
  • Hands on experience with aseptic technique and cell culture.
  • Able to work safely and efficiently in a lab, plan schedules, and arrange activities to meet objectives in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of coding/scripting for data analysis using software like Matlab, Python, R, or equivalent
  • Excellent problem solving & analytical skills, including experience with data modeling, design of experiments (DoE), and statistical analysis
  • Communicate complex information through written reports, presentations, and application notes
  • Demonstrated success working in a team setting
  • Experience with Windows operating systems, file structure, and organization
